Severe flooding in Sawai Madhopur due to heavy rains; railway tracks submerged, bridge washed away disrupting connectivity, water enters houses, disrupting normal life.
Sawai Madhopur: This year's monsoon has taken a fierce form in Rajasthan. The rain that started late Tuesday night has pushed the Sawai Madhopur district completely towards a flood-like tragedy on Wednesday. Continuous heavy rain for more than 12 hours has disrupted normal life. From the railway station to the general settlements and fields, everywhere is filled with water.
Railway Track Submerged, Train Operations Affected
The most serious impact has been seen at Sawai Madhopur railway station, where the tracks are completely submerged. The water has risen so much that trains passing over the tracks have either stopped or are moving very slowly. Prioritizing the safety of passengers, the railway administration has deployed additional guards. Several trains have been diverted and some have been temporarily canceled. Passengers are being held at the station premises.
Bridge Washed Away, Villages Disconnected from District Headquarters
Due to the rain, the Ughad bridge located on NH-552, which connects to the district headquarters, has been washed away in the b current. This has directly affected hundreds of villagers in the Khandar sub-division area, who have been cut off from direct contact with the district headquarters. The administration is looking for alternative routes, but no concrete arrangement has been made so far. The situation is so bad that it has become difficult to deliver relief materials to many rural areas.
Latia Drain Unleashes Havoc, Settlements Submerged
The Latia drain in the city has overflowed due to heavy rains. The settlements around it have been flooded with two to three feet of water. Water has entered many houses, forcing families to leave their homes overnight and flee to safer places. According to local people, they have not seen such a water level in the last 10 years. The conditions are so bad that the administration is having to deploy boats.
Schools Closed, Power Supply Disrupted
Many schools in the district were closed on Wednesday as a precaution. Power supply in rural areas has also been completely disrupted, causing people difficulty in mobile charging, internet access, and normal household chores. Transformers have been shut down in many places due to waterlogging.
Weather Department Alert: Situation May Worsen
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 22 districts of Rajasthan, including Sawai Madhopur, on Wednesday and Thursday. There is also a possibility of heavy rain in districts like Jaipur, Kota, Bundi, Baran, Dholpur and Karauli. A 'red alert' has been declared for Sawai Madhopur and the administration has been instructed to remain vigilant.
Relief and Rescue Operations Begin, But Pace is Slow
The local administration has engaged SDRF and municipal teams in relief and rescue operations. People are being moved from flood-affected areas to safer places. But the pace of rescue operations has slowed down due to continuous rain. The District Collector has activated control rooms in all tehsils and helpline numbers have also been issued.
Kota-Sheopur Road Closed, MP-Rajasthan Contact Disrupted
The major road connecting Kota to Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh has also been completely closed due to rain. Due to this, contact between the border areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has been cut off. The supply of essential goods is also being affected.
Administration's Appeal: Stay at Home, Avoid Rumors
The administration has appealed to all residents of the district to not leave their homes unnecessarily and avoid going near rivers and drains. They have also been advised to be cautious of false rumors spreading on social media. The District Collector has said that all departments have been kept on alert and are ready to deal with any situation.
