Shahnawaz Khan records 7.84 metres in long jump final
The 18-year-old Shahnawaz Khan secured his place on the podium with a 7.84-metre jump in the third round of the long jump final. He later recorded another 7.83-metre jump in the fifth round.
Shahnawaz finished third with his 7.84-metre effort. His bronze medal became India’s third medal at the championship.
Enzoli wins gold
Italy’s Enzoli won the gold medal in the long jump final with a 7.97-metre effort. Australia’s McGroder claimed the silver medal with a jump of 7.96 metres.

Shahnawaz’s bronze followed two silver medals won by Indian athletes earlier in the competition. Ashish Yadav won silver in the javelin throw, while Basant Kumar Meghwal secured silver in the high jump.
Basant Kumar Meghwal wins high jump silver
Before Shahnawaz’s medal, Rajasthan’s Basant Kumar Meghwal won silver in the high jump. The 19-year-old from Anupgarh in Sri Ganganagar district cleared 2.21 metres, which was the best performance of his career so far.
Basant achieved the result in the high jump final held on Saturday. Algeria’s Younes Ayachi won the gold medal, while Great Britain’s Otis Poole took bronze.
Ashish Yadav wins India’s first medal
Ashish Yadav started India’s medal run at the championship by winning silver in the javelin throw. Basant Kumar Meghwal then added another silver in the high jump before Shahnawaz Khan won bronze in the long jump.
India has therefore won medals in the javelin throw, high jump and long jump at the U20 World Athletics Championships in Eugene.
