Relief has come for fans of Indian cricket team's star batsman Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, who was injured during the ODI series against Australia, has been discharged from a Sydney hospital.

Sports News: Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer was discharged from a Sydney hospital on Saturday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this, stating that Iyer's condition has now improved. Shreyas Iyer sustained a rib injury during the third ODI match against Australia. This incident occurred when he was attempting to take a catch while running backwards towards the backward point region. Following the injury, he was admitted to the ICU.

How Shreyas Iyer Sustained the Injury

Shreyas Iyer sustained this serious injury on October 25, 2025, during the third ODI match against Australia. While attempting to catch a high shot from Australian batsman Alex Carey during the match, Iyer sprinted quickly from backward point and took a brilliant catch. However, at the same time, he fell on the ground on his left ribs, resulting in a serious injury.

After falling on the field, Shreyas groaned in pain, and the medical team was immediately called. Investigations revealed that he had sustained injuries to his ribs and spleen, which led to internal bleeding. Following this, he was admitted to the ICU under emergency medical care.

BCCI Provides Health Update - 'Shreyas is now completely safe'

In its statement released on Saturday, the BCCI said, "Shreyas Iyer was admitted to a Sydney hospital after sustaining an injury during the third ODI. He had an injury to his spleen and minor bleeding. After a minor operation, the situation is under control. He is now completely stable and under the supervision of doctors."

The BCCI further added that Shreyas has now been discharged from the hospital, but he will remain in Sydney for a few more days so that doctors can closely monitor his recovery. The decision regarding his return to India will be made only after the doctors' final medical report.

Gratitude to Doctors and Medical Team

In its statement, the BCCI expressed special gratitude to Dr. Kourosh Haghighi and his medical team in Sydney, as well as Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala from India. These specialists ensured Iyer's operation and subsequent care. The board stated that the Indian cricketer was provided with "the best medical facilities" and is now in safe hands.

The 30-year-old Shreyas Iyer is currently playing only in the ODI format for the Indian team. Due to a chronic back problem (Back Injury), he has stayed away from Test cricket for the past six months. Furthermore, selectors did not include him in the recent T20 series to ensure his fitness could be fully restored.
