South Delhi Superstars secured a resounding 46-run victory against Purani Delhi 6 in the 25th match of the Delhi Premier League 2025. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, the team got off to a blistering start.
Sports News: In the 25th match of the Delhi Premier League 2025, played on Sunday, South Delhi Superstars put on a stellar performance to defeat Purani Delhi 6 by 46 runs, strengthening their position in the points table. The heroes of this victory were two Indian bowlers – Sumit Beniwal and Abhishek Khandelwal, who together took 9 wickets of the opposing team, completely turning the tide of the match.
Strong Start for South Delhi
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the South Delhi Superstars team got off to an aggressive start. Openers Ankur Kaushik and Anmol Sharma put on a partnership of 70 runs in just 6.4 overs. Ankur scored 21 runs off 17 balls before getting out, but Anmol carried the innings forward, putting his team in a b position.
Anmol smashed a quickfire 58 runs off just 37 balls. His innings included three towering sixes and five fours. In the middle order, Kunwar Bidhuri contributed 22 runs, and Panchal added a brisk 31 runs off 18 balls. Although the Superstars' batsmen gave a b start, the bowlers of Purani Delhi tried to make a comeback in between.
Rajnish Dadar and Lalit Yadav took three wickets each, while Ayush Singh took two and Pradeep Parashar took one. Despite this, the Superstars managed to put up a competitive score in the stipulated overs.
Weak Start for Purani Delhi
Chasing the target, the Purani Delhi 6 team looked shaky from the start. They lost three important wickets within the first seven runs. The batsmen considered the backbone of the team returned to the pavilion cheaply. After that, Lalit Yadav tried to steady the team by scoring 22 runs off 28 balls, but his dismissal proved to be a major setback for the team. By that time, Purani Delhi's score was 74 for seven wickets, and the match was almost out of their hands.
The best performance for the team came from Ekansh Doval. He put on a partnership of 51 runs with Rajnish Dadar for the eighth wicket and continued the fight. Ekansh scored 63 runs off 42 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. However, his brilliant innings was not enough to lead the team to victory, and the entire team was bundled out for 138 runs on the last ball of the 20th over.
Superstars' Bowlers Shine
The biggest reason for South Delhi Superstars' victory was the deadly performance of their bowlers. Sumit Beniwal broke the back of the opposition batsmen by taking five wickets for just 19 runs in his quota. Along with him, Abhishek Khandelwal dashed all hopes of Purani Delhi by taking four wickets. Apart from them, Aman Bharti also took one wicket.
Thanks to their brilliant bowling, the entire team of Purani Delhi lost the match by 46 runs. Sumit Beniwal was chosen as the 'Player of the Match' for his five-wicket haul.
