The cancellation of the 2021 Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment process in Rajasthan following a decision by the Supreme Court of India has created a complex situation for nearly 859 selected candidates whose jobs are now under threat.

A major legal and administrative development has emerged in Rajasthan regarding the 2021 Sub-Inspector recruitment process. Following a recent decision by the Supreme Court of India, the entire recruitment process has been cancelled, placing the employment of 859 selected candidates in jeopardy. The decision has affected the future of thousands of aspirants and raised questions over the transparency of recruitment procedures.

The Supreme Court dismissed the Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by selected candidates and upheld the Rajasthan High Court’s ruling. During the hearing, the court observed that if there is even a minor irregularity in a process, it cannot be purified by separating different components of it. The observation is being viewed as significant in the case, indicating that the court considered the entire recruitment process compromised and therefore fit for cancellation.

Following the cancellation of the recruitment process, selected candidates have expressed concern and disappointment. Several candidates stated that they had cleared the examination through honest effort and are now facing consequences for alleged wrongdoing by others. Some candidates have demanded a rigorous investigation to establish their innocence.

They said they are willing to undergo narco tests, polygraph tests or lie detector tests if required to prove that they did not use unfair means. According to the candidates, loss of employment would not only affect their careers but could also create financial difficulties for their families.

Candidates who had long alleged irregularities in the recruitment process welcomed the decision, describing it as a victory for justice. They said the ruling would help improve transparency in future recruitment processes. Petitioners had alleged that paper leaks and other irregularities deprived several deserving candidates of selection. They said the government should now begin a fresh and fair recruitment process at the earliest.

Large-scale irregularities had earlier been reported in the recruitment process. Investigations revealed that the examination paper had been leaked and that several candidates secured selection through unfair means. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police was constituted to investigate the matter. More than 130 people have been arrested so far, including around 70 selected candidates.

In addition, two former members of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) were also jailed in connection with the case, raising serious concerns over the credibility of the recruitment process.
