Truecaller Launches Secure Calls Feature to Combat Fraudulent Calls

Truecaller's new Secure Calls feature will protect users from fraudulent calls, ensuring only verified business calls reach them.

Relief is on the way for mobile users plagued by incessant fraudulent calls and spam. Popular caller ID and spam blocking app, Truecaller, has launched a powerful new feature called 'Secure Calls'. This new feature will help users easily distinguish between legitimate and fraudulent calls.

What is the Secure Calls feature?

Truecaller's Secure Calls feature is a verification system specifically designed to identify and authenticate business calls. This feature will tag calls as 'Genuine Business' if made by verified enterprises. This allows users to instantly identify trustworthy calls.

This feature is especially beneficial for apps seeking to verify their enterprise clients, enabling users to confidently accept calls. NoBroker is the first company to adopt the Secure Calls feature, using Truecaller to verify its real estate agents' calls, making it easier for users to connect with legitimate agents.

How does this feature work?

Truecaller uses this feature to whitelist companies on the backend. Only Truecaller-verified enterprises can make calls under this system. When a user receives a call, a 'Verified by Truecaller' badge will appear on the call screen. Fraudulent calls or calls from fraudulent entities will be easily identifiable.

NoBroker becomes the first subscriber

Announcing the rollout of this feature, Truecaller stated that NoBroker, a well-known real estate company, is its first subscriber. This means that calls from a NoBroker agent will appear verified through Truecaller.

How will users benefit?

This feature will block fraudulent calls at the initial stage. Truecaller's AI-based system analyzes backend data to determine if the calling number is secure. Importantly, it identifies the caller not just by name but through complete business verification. This will provide users with relief from spam and reduce the chances of cyber fraud.

Government efforts

It is noteworthy that the government has also been actively addressing fraudulent calls and cyber fraud for the past few years. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) and DoT (Department of Telecommunications) have instructed telecom companies to implement the DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) system, allowing only registered and whitelisted telemarketers to make calls. Stricter regulations have also been implemented on those purchasing a large number of SIM cards simultaneously.

Airtel also launches AI call filter

In addition to Truecaller, Airtel has also introduced an AI-based call detection system to protect its customers. This feature blocks suspicious calls and messages, warning the user. It also prevents the opening of fraudulent links.
