UIDAI will soon launch a new e-Aadhaar app and QR code-based system, allowing citizens to update Aadhaar details from their mobile phones. From November 2025, only biometric updates will require a visit to a center.
Aadhar: A significant transformation is on the horizon in India's digital identity landscape. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is set to introduce a revolutionary step enabling citizens to update their Aadhaar card information from the comfort of their homes, hassle-free. To facilitate this, UIDAI is preparing to launch a new QR code-based e-Aadhaar system and a dedicated mobile app, scheduled for nationwide rollout by the end of November 2025.
New e-Aadhaar App: Update Directly from Your Mobile Now
UIDAI will soon launch a new e-Aadhaar mobile app, enabling users to update personal information associated with their Aadhaar card, such as name, address, date of birth, etc., directly from their mobile phones. Through this app, the need to stand in long queues at Aadhaar service centers or carry photocopies of documents will be eliminated. UIDAI has clarified that this app will be entirely digital and paperless, providing users with a fast, secure, and convenient experience.
Digital Identity Verification via QR Code
The new e-Aadhaar system will incorporate a QR code-based digital verification system. Under this system, your e-Aadhaar will feature a unique QR code that can be scanned to verify your identity. According to UIDAI CEO, Bhuvnesh Kumar, out of approximately one lakh Aadhaar authentication devices across the country, 2,000 devices have already been upgraded to support QR codes. This number will be rapidly increased in the coming months to make the identity verification process faster, more accurate, and fraud-free.
Center Visit Required Only for Biometric Updates Now
UIDAI has also clarified that from November 2025 onwards, visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras will only be necessary for biometric updates (such as fingerprints and iris scans). All other updates, including name, address, date of birth, etc., can be done through the mobile app. This will provide significant relief to people in rural and remote areas who previously had to travel to service centers in cities for minor updates.
Priority Given to Security and Privacy
UIDAI is giving top priority to data security and user privacy while creating this system. QR code-based identity verification will only be possible with the user's explicit consent. Additionally, UIDAI is working on a technology that will automatically verify Aadhaar-related details from government databases such as PAN card, passport, ration card, driving license, electricity bill, etc. This will greatly reduce the possibility of fake identities or duplicate records.
Special Focus on Children's Aadhaar Updates
UIDAI is conducting a special campaign in collaboration with CBSE and other boards to update the Aadhaar records of school children. Under this campaign, the biometric information of children aged 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years will be re-recorded to ensure that their identity matches their age and to avoid any problems in the future.
Pilot Project Commenced in Hotels and Offices
UIDAI has already started a pilot project of this new system in some sub-registrar offices and the hotel industry. Here, the check-in and registration process is being made digital and faster by scanning the QR code. According to initial reports, this process not only saves time but also verifies customer identities in a more secure and reliable manner.
