The Government of India has introduced a new governance framework for AI innovation, emphasizing user safety, transparency, and trustworthy technology. The 68-page guidelines include requirements such as AI model risk assessment, data documentation, and safety testing. This framework ensures the secure development of AI technology in India and alignment with international standards.
AI Governance Framework: The Government of India has issued new guidelines for the safe and trustworthy development of Artificial Intelligence in the country. Prepared in collaboration with MeitY and Principal Scientific Advisor Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, this 68-page report places special emphasis on AI model risk assessment, data source documentation, and user safety. This initiative aims to ensure the safe use of AI technology in high-risk sectors such as healthcare, financial services, and law enforcement.
Focus on User Safety and Trustworthy AI in New Guidelines
The Government of India has released a detailed governance framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation. The 68-page guidelines present a comprehensive blueprint of rules and safety standards for AI models and technologies being developed in India. MeitY and India's Principal Scientific Advisor, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, officially released this framework. Its objective is to make AI innovation in India safe, transparent, and trustworthy.

Key Points of the AI Framework
According to the framework, AI systems in India must be trustworthy, based on human rights, safety, and transparency. It advocates for adopting a risk-based approach to measure potential harm proactively. Before deploying any AI model in India, risk assessment, data source documentation, and safety testing will be mandatory. Additionally, grievance redressal mechanisms and reporting channels must be in place.
According to Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, this framework is designed to encourage innovation and ensure user safety, rather than imposing restrictions on AI. Its impact will be particularly considered in high-risk sectors such as healthcare, financial services, and law enforcement agencies.
AI Governance Group and International Partnerships
The framework also proposes the creation of an AI Governance Group (AIGG), which will include the central government, tech policy experts, and AI Safety Institutes. In the future, it will be implemented in coordination with various ministries and public institutions. Partnerships with international bodies have also been emphasized to enhance AI innovation in India and align with global standards.
Through these guidelines, the government aims to ensure trustworthiness, safety, and transparency in AI technology. Its objective is to enhance AI capabilities in the country and improve infrastructure and resources.
