BCCI Raises Asia Cup Trophy Dispute at ICC Meeting; Special Committee Formed for Resolution

The BCCI has taken a significant step towards resolving the Asia Cup trophy dispute. According to media reports, this issue was prominently raised at the ICC (International Cricket Council) meeting held in Dubai on November 7.

Sports News: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a major step towards resolving the Asia Cup trophy dispute. At the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting held in Dubai on November 7, 2025, the BCCI formally raised the issue of the Asia Cup trophy. To resolve this dispute, the ICC has decided to form a Special Committee, which will act as a mediator between the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards. The objective of this committee is to amicably settle the trophy-related dispute so that the Indian team can receive its won Asia Cup trophy soon.

Asia Cup Trophy Dispute

This dispute began when India won the Asia Cup final on September 28, 2025, by defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets. However, a controversy arose during the trophy presentation ceremony after the final. The Indian team, at that time, refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

The reason for the dispute was Naqvi's alleged political remarks made in conjunction with the Pakistan Cricket Board and his statements about players. Following this, Naqvi took the trophy with him, which is still kept at the ACC office in Dubai. After this incident, tensions between the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards escalated further, due to which the Asia Cup winning trophy could not be handed over to India.

BCCI Raised the Issue at ICC Meeting

According to NDTV and other media reports, BCCI representatives raised this matter during the ICC Board meeting in Dubai. All members present at the meeting acknowledged that India and Pakistan are two prominent nations in the cricketing world, and such a dispute between them negatively impacts the sport's image. Therefore, the ICC Board unanimously passed a resolution stating that,

'An independent committee should be formed to resolve this dispute through mutual dialogue and a transparent process between both countries.'

According to ICC officials, the committee will meet with both the Indian and Pakistani cricket boards in the coming weeks and determine the process for the official transfer of the trophy.

Meeting's Main Agenda: World Cup and New Policies

However, the Asia Cup trophy dispute was not the main agenda of the meeting. Several other important decisions were also made during this meeting, including the format of the 2029 Women’s ODI World Cup. The ICC announced that instead of 8, 10 teams will participate in the upcoming tournament, providing an opportunity for more nations. This decision is considered a significant step towards further promoting women's cricket.

It is known that India won its first world title in the 2025 Women's World Cup by defeating South Africa by 52 runs. Now, the ICC wants the 2029 World Cup to be more competitive and globally appealing. BCCI sources stated that India wants to resolve this matter "sensitively but decisively." The board believes that sport should be kept separate from politics, and the respect for an international trophy should be paramount.
