Yogi Adityanath Inaugurates Uttar Pradesh's First TOD-Based Greenfield Township in Meerut

CM Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone of the state's first TOD policy-based Greenfield Township in Meerut. This project will promote housing, business, and employment. The ₹1,258 crore scheme will provide the state with a new city.

UP: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Meerut on Monday via helicopter from Saharanpur. His helicopter landed at the helipad built in Mohiuddinpur, where he was welcomed with the sound of conch shells. Following this, he formally laid the foundation stone of the state's first Greenfield Integrated Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Township. The Chief Minister will spend the night in Meerut and depart for Aligarh by helicopter at 9 am on Tuesday.

Economic Support to Youth and Groups Along with Foundation Laying

During the foundation laying ceremony, the Chief Minister distributed loans worth ₹29 crore to 674 entrepreneurs under the Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan (Youth Entrepreneur Development Campaign). Additionally, he provided checks of financial assistance worth ₹64 crore to 881 self-help groups. Following this, the Chief Minister reached Urja Bhawan, where he held a meeting with the MLAs, MPs, and Members of the Legislative Council from all the districts of the Meerut division. The meeting included a divisional review of regional development works and law and order.

What is a TOD Township?

The state's first Greenfield TOD Township is being developed in Mohiuddinpur, located on Delhi Road in Meerut. This township will be spread over an area of 294 hectares. So far, 122 hectares of land have been purchased. This township will be based on the Transit Oriented Development policy, under which land use will be completely mixed. This means that any area can be used equally for housing, business, and industrial activities.

Model of a Modern Township

This scheme adopts the concept of "shop below, house above." This means that residential and commercial activities will be integrated into the same building. Multi-story buildings will be constructed here, in which housing, offices, shopping complexes, and IT-related industrial activities will coexist. This arrangement will ensure housing for people of all income groups.

MEDA is Developing the Township

The Meerut Development Authority (MEDA) is developing this township. For this, land is being purchased in Mohiuddinpur, Ikla, Chhajupur, and Kayasth Gaonri, located on the border of Ghaziabad district. By keeping the entire land use of the township mixed, it has become the first project in the state that completely meets the TOD policy.

Government Scheme and Financial Assistance

This township is being developed under the Chief Minister's Urban Expansion/New City Promotion Scheme. For this, the state government has approved an interest-free loan of ₹1,258 crore. So far, ₹809 crore has been released. A total of ₹2,516 crore will be spent on land acquisition. The remaining amount will be arranged through bank loans.

Development will be in 31 Sectors

A total of 31 sectors will be developed under the first phase (Phase-One) and second phase (Phase-Two) of this project. Out of these, the development work of two sectors will be completed by November 2025. Under the scheme, the sale of plots in the township will also begin around Diwali.
