Samajwadi Party Leader Samrat Malik Under House Arrest Ahead of CM Yogi's Meerut Visit

Political activity in the district has intensified just before Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's visit to Meerut. A major action has been taken, especially concerning Samajwadi Party leader Samrat Malik.

Meerut: A significant political event has unfolded before Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's arrival in Meerut. Samajwadi Party leader Samrat Malik has been placed under house arrest by the police. This move has not only stirred up local politics but has also given opposition parties an opportunity to launch a sharp attack against the state government.

What is the whole matter?

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had an official program in Meerut, in view of which the administration had tightened security arrangements. During this time, SP leader Samrat Malik was placed under house arrest. Police say they had input that Samrat Malik was going to participate in a memorandum program, and it was necessary to detain him as a precaution.

Samrat Malik's sharp statement

Reacting to the police action, Samrat Malik completely denied all the allegations. He said:

'I did not have any public program. I was only going to express grief after the tragic death of three innocent children in my assembly constituency, Siwalkhas. But the police stopped me from going there too.'

Samrat Malik, launching a sharp attack on CM Yogi, called him "the weakest and most scared Chief Minister in the country." He said:

'It is the fear of power that opposition leaders are imprisoned in their homes. If the government is so afraid of the voice of the opposition, then it is a dangerous sign for democracy.'

Attack on democratic rights?

This incident has heated up the state's political landscape. Opposition parties say that this is a direct violation of democratic rights. Malik said that in a democracy, it is the right of the opposition to go among the public, meet grieving families, and raise their voice. But if the government, fearing this, detains leaders, then it is a symbol of dictatorship.

On the other hand, the Meerut administration and police say that this step was taken for security reasons. Officials say that in view of CM Yogi's visit, the activities of some sensitive individuals were being monitored to avoid potential protests or disruptions.
