The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the MCD by-elections to be held later this month. The party released a list of 12 candidates on Sunday, including eight women.
New Delhi: Political activity has intensified ahead of the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its list of candidates late Sunday evening. The party has declared candidates for a total of 12 wards, including 8 women candidates. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, during a press conference, stated that all names were selected keeping in mind "intensive deliberation and winning prospects." He added that the BJP would secure a unilateral victory based on its work and organizational strength.
Delhi MCD By-Elections to be Held on November 30
Voting for 12 wards of the Delhi Municipal Corporation will take place on November 30, 2025. These by-elections are considered crucial for both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as the MCD directly influences the politics of the capital. Of these 12 wards, 9 are currently held by the BJP, while 3 wards are with the Aam Aadmi Party.
The Shalimar Bagh-B seat was previously held by senior BJP leader and former Mayor Rekha Gupta, while the Dwarka-B seat was represented by BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
BJP Releases List of 12 Candidates
Delhi BJP released its list of candidates on Sunday night. Virendra Sachdeva stated, "We have selected candidates keeping in mind merit, dedication to the organization, and local popularity. The BJP has always contested elections based on merit and public trust, and this remains our strength this time as well." According to sources, the BJP's list includes the following prominent names:

BJP State President Virendra Sachdeva said that the people of Delhi have always trusted the work of the BJP. He stated, "The work done jointly by the central government, the state unit, and the MCD for Delhi's development is evident to the public. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have prioritized transparency and accountability. We are fully confident that the people of Delhi will stand with the BJP." Sachdeva also added that the party made "local issues, organizational capacity, and track record of public service" the main criteria for candidate selection.
Nomination Deadline: November 10
The Delhi State Election Commission has released important dates regarding the MCD by-election process:
- Last date for filing nominations: November 10, 2025
- Scrutiny of nominations: November 12, 2025
- Last date for withdrawal of candidatures: November 15, 2025
- Polling date: November 30, 2025
- Date of counting votes: December 2, 2025 (tentative)
This time's by-election is being viewed as a mini-MCD election for Delhi's politics. Earlier on Sunday morning, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had also released its list of 12 candidates. Of the 12 wards where by-elections are being held, three are currently held by the AAP. The party has given opportunities to new faces to retain these seats.
