UPSC Prelims Result 2025: Anxiously Awaited Results
The results for the Civil Services (IAS) and Indian Forest Services (IFS) combined preliminary examination, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on May 25, 2025, are expected to be declared shortly. Lakhs of candidates are awaiting their results, which, based on media reports and past trends, are likely to be announced between June 10th and 15th. However, no official notification has been released by the commission yet.
Qualifying for the Mains Examination
Candidates who achieve the prescribed cutoff marks according to their category in the preliminary examination will be eligible to appear for the Mains examination. The main examination is scheduled for August 28, 2025. This examination thoroughly assesses the candidates' competence and in-depth subject knowledge, serving as a crucial stage in the final selection process.

UPSC Mains Exam Pattern
The UPSC Mains examination consists of a total of nine papers. Seven of these papers are compulsory for merit, each carrying 250 marks. Additionally, there are two qualifying papers:
- One Indian Language
- One English Language
It is mandatory to obtain minimum qualifying marks in both these papers, but they are not included in the merit list. The final merit list is prepared based on the seven main papers.
Number of Vacancies
Through this recruitment process, UPSC will fill a total of 979 IAS officer positions. There will also be 150 vacancies for the IFS (Indian Forest Service). The application process was completed between January 22nd and February 21st, 2025.
