Monsoon activity has intensified once again in Uttar Pradesh. Following heavy rainfall in Gorakhpur, several parts of the city were submerged, with major roads resembling ponds and parked cars partially submerged in water. Waterlogging caused severe disruption to movement, particularly for two-wheeler riders, while several vehicles broke down after being stranded in flooded areas.
Continuous rainfall led to water accumulation in low-lying areas. Water remained logged outside homes and shops in several residential colonies and markets after drainage systems were affected. Municipal corporation teams continued efforts to drain the water, but persistent rainfall delayed the restoration of normal conditions at multiple locations.
Rain also had a widespread impact in Pratapgarh, where the premises of the Superintendent of Police (SP) office were flooded, affecting official work. Employees faced difficulty entering and leaving the office after water accumulated within the compound. The administration began deploying pumping machines and arranging water drainage measures.
In Varanasi, continuous rainfall and increased inflow from upstream areas have raised the water level of the Ganga River. The lower steps of several ghats have been submerged. As a precaution, the administration has increased monitoring at the ghats and appealed to devotees to remain cautious during the period of b river flow.
The venue for the Ganga Aarti has also been changed because of the rising river level. The ceremony is being conducted at a higher and safer location with devotees' safety given priority. The administration and the ghat management committee are continuously monitoring the situation.
According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is likely to continue in several districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh over the next few days. Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected. People living in low-lying areas and along riverbanks have been advised to remain particularly vigilant due to the possibility of waterlogging and rising river levels.
The administration has appealed to people to avoid waterlogged roads, maintain a safe distance from electric poles and broken power lines, and immediately inform the concerned departments in case of any emergency. People living along riverbanks have also been advised to monitor the river level and follow administrative instructions.
At present, waterlogging in Gorakhpur, flooding inside government offices in Pratapgarh, and the rising water level of the Ganga in Varanasi have raised concerns for the administration. According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is likely to continue in the coming days, and people have been advised to remain cautious.
