Varanasi district continues to shine in the ongoing rankings for women's economic empowerment in Uttar Pradesh. According to the latest report, Kashi has secured the first position in the state four times in the last six months. This achievement is attributed to the increasing activity of women's groups, new self-employment opportunities, and the administration's effective strategy.
As per the report, over 1.38 lakh women in the district are involved in various livelihood activities. 11,879 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are playing a crucial role in managing these operations. The administration consistently supports women by providing access to banking services, credit facilities, market access, and skill development.
Varanasi has also been placed in the 'Champion Category' in the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Index. This index is prepared based on 49 indicators, and several state government departments are linked to it.
By consistently topping the rankings four times, Varanasi has emerged as a model for women's economic upliftment in Uttar Pradesh. The effective implementation of schemes and the active participation of women have given the district a new identity.
