Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh government has undertaken a significant initiative to strengthen the financial security of the elderly. In the recently launched pension scheme, the second installment of old-age pension has been disbursed to 1,63,968 elderly individuals in Prayagraj district.
The government has announced that eligible senior citizens will no longer need to apply separately to receive their pension. This change will relieve the elderly from the hassle of visiting government offices and ensure that pensions reach them more transparently and on time.
In the Prayagraj division (which includes Prayagraj and other districts), 5,06,375 elderly individuals have received pensions in the first quarter of this financial year.
On the other hand, the scope of this scheme has been expanded across Uttar Pradesh with the goal of benefiting 67.50 lakh elderly individuals.
According to District Social Welfare Officer Ram Shankar Patel, deceased beneficiaries were screened last year, and approximately 4,100 names were removed from the list to ensure that only genuinely eligible elderly individuals receive pension benefits.
Additionally, pensions for the months of April, May, and June were disbursed together to ensure smoothness in benefit distribution.
