West Indies Clinch ODI Series with Dominating Victory Over Pakistan; Seales Shatters Records

Pakistan suffered a crushing defeat against the West Indies in the third and decisive ODI of the series at the Brian Lara Stadium. The Pakistan team looked helpless against the West Indies in both batting and bowling departments.

Sports News: The West Indies defeated Pakistan by 202 runs in the third and decisive ODI to win the series 2-1. In this match played at the Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad, 23-year-old fast bowler Jayden Seales created history by delivering the best bowling performance in an ODI against Pakistan. He took 6 wickets for just 18 runs in 7.2 overs, breaking Dale Steyn's record.

After losing the toss and batting first, the West Indies did not have a good start. After initial setbacks, captain Shai Hope steadied the innings, scoring an unbeaten 120 off 94 balls, including 10 fours and 5 sixes. He was supported by Justin Greaves, who played a quickfire innings of 43 not out off 24 balls. At one point, it seemed difficult for the West Indies to reach a score of 250, but thanks to the rapid run rate in the final overs, the team scored 294 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs.

Pakistan's Innings Collapsed

Chasing a target of 295 runs, Pakistan had a very poor start. Jayden Seales wreaked havoc with the new ball from the very first over. He sent Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique back to the pavilion without scoring. After that, he also dismissed Babar Azam (9 runs), Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, and Hasan Ali.

Pakistan's batsmen looked completely helpless against the West Indies bowlers and were all out for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs. Salman Ali Agha scored the highest 30 runs, while Mohammad Nawaz remained unbeaten on 23.

Dale Steyn's Record Broken

This spell of Jayden Seales is the best performance by any bowler in ODI cricket against Pakistan so far. Prior to this, the record was held by South Africa's Dale Steyn, who took 6 wickets for 39 runs. Apart from Steyn and Seales, only Sri Lanka's Thisara Perera has taken 6 wickets in an ODI against Pakistan. This is the third-best bowling performance by a West Indies bowler in ODI cricket.

  • Winston Davis – 7/51 vs Australia, 1983
  • Colin Croft – 6/15 vs England, 1981
  • Jayden Seales – 6/18 vs Pakistan, 2025

This performance was the best by a West Indies bowler in ODIs in 42 years. Seales was awarded both Player of the Match and Player of the Series for taking 10 wickets in 3 matches.

Jayden Seales' Career Journey

Jayden Seales was part of the West Indies team in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. He made his international cricket debut in 2021. So far, he has played 21 Test and 25 ODI matches, in which he has 88 wickets in Tests and 31 wickets in ODIs to his name. The specialty of this 23-year-old right-arm fast bowler is that he focuses more on international cricket than T20 leagues. His bowling features accurate line and length with high speed in the initial spell, which puts the opposing team under pressure from the start.
