A serious case of medical negligence has come to light at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, involving the gallstone surgery of a woman. The victim, Rakhi Bhati, a resident of Amrapali Grand in Zeta-1, was admitted to the hospital on May 31st complaining of abdominal pain. An ultrasound confirmed the presence of two gallstones in her abdomen. Dhirendra Bhati, the victim's husband and a lawyer, alleges that the hospital claimed to have removed only one gallstone, while giving vague answers regarding the second one. When questioned about this, the doctors stated that it had been sent to the lab for examination.
Even after the operation, Rakhi's condition did not improve. The pain persisted, leading to another ultrasound. The report revealed that fluid, i.e., contaminated blood, had accumulated in the abdomen, indicating a serious infection. Dhirendra Bhati says that when he discussed this negligence with the hospital management, the hospital acknowledged the mistake, but neither provided effective treatment nor offered any financial assistance. He alleged that due to this negligence, his wife not only suffered physical pain but also mental distress.
Complaint Filed with the CMO
The entire matter gained momentum when the Greater Noida Bar Association took it up. On Friday, senior advocates from the Bar Association, along with the victim's family, met with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Narendra Kumar, and demanded strict action against Yatharth Hospital. The advocates stated that the hospital had complicated a routine surgery and caused severe mental and financial distress to the patient.
Umesh Bhati Devta, the former president of the Bar Association, and other advocates, including the former secretary, submitted a memorandum to the CMO, demanding the immediate sealing of the hospital. They said that such incidents not only pose a threat to patients' lives but also raise questions about the credibility of the entire healthcare system. The association has warned that if swift action is not taken, the advocates will take to the streets to protest.
CMO Constitutes Inquiry Committee
Considering the seriousness of the matter, CMO Dr. Narendra Kumar immediately constituted a three-member inquiry committee. This committee will conduct an impartial investigation into the entire matter and submit a report. Dr. Kumar clarified that if the hospital's negligence is proven in the investigation, strict action will be taken against those responsible. He said that the safety of patients is the government's priority and that the arbitrary actions of medical institutions will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
This case has not only exposed the negligence of a hospital but also demonstrates how patients are being exploited financially and mentally in the name of treatment. Incidents of medical negligence and extortion are constantly increasing, which is eroding the public's trust in the healthcare system.
This case at Yatharth Hospital is not just the story of a single patient, but rather a part of the larger problem that is hollowing out the country's healthcare system from within. The victim and the advocates demand that the hospital be sealed and legal action be taken so that such negligence does not occur with any other patient in the future. It remains to be seen how effectively the administration will act in this matter and when the perpetrators will be held accountable.
