The 18th BRICS Summit, being held under India’s chairmanship in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, 2026, is expected to produce several significant agreements and announcements. More than 50 concrete and practical outcomes have been worked on under four key pillars of India’s BRICS chairmanship: Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.

According to Indian officials, more than 50 concrete outcomes have been worked on across various sectors during India’s BRICS chairmanship. These include frameworks, action plans and documents related to cooperation. The process has been advanced around four key priorities: Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.
One of the potential key outcomes of the summit is a clear and b condemnation of terrorism. India has long emphasized the need for coordinated global action against terrorism. Strengthening a shared commitment through the BRICS platform against all forms of terrorism has remained one of the key priorities of India’s chairmanship.
Discussions are also expected to focus on making the global governance system more representative and effective. India has continued to call for reforms in major multilateral institutions, including the United Nations. In this context, support for India’s bid for permanent membership of the UNSC could form part of the summit’s key political outcomes.
Differences among BRICS countries over the situation in West Asia have remained a challenge ahead of the summit. In particular, differing positions taken by Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had created uncertainty over the joint declaration. Earlier, a meeting of foreign ministers also ended without a joint statement reflecting broad agreement on the West Asia issue.
Despite this, Indian government sources expect the summit to conclude with positive outcomes, citing the year-long negotiations and the broad support received by India during its chairmanship.
India has organized around 400 meetings across various sectors during its chairmanship, with an emphasis on dialogue and consensus-building among member countries. Officials believe the process has helped advance cooperation within BRICS on different issues.

During its BRICS chairmanship, India has positioned itself as a country giving priority to issues concerning the Global South. Giving issues related to developing and emerging economies a more effective place in global decision-making has remained one of India’s priorities.
The summit will begin with a session chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi focused on strengthening multilateralism. Discussions are expected to cover the changing global order, international cooperation and the role of developing countries.
India has emphasized that BRICS should not remain limited to economic cooperation but should also serve as an effective platform for dialogue and practical cooperation on global challenges. Agreements reached among various ministerial meetings and agencies have been part of this approach.
According to the Government of India, the 2026 BRICS chairmanship was conducted as a broad national effort. Along with the central and state governments, industry, academia, research institutions, youth, civil society and other groups were involved in the process.
Programmes related to the chairmanship were held in more than 30 cities across the country. The objective was to extend BRICS cooperation beyond New Delhi to different parts of India and ensure participation from various sectors.
