PM Modi Embarks on 8-Day Diplomatic Tour to Five Nations

PM Modi to embark on an 8-day tour, visiting 5 nations. The tour aims to participate in the BRICS Summit, establish bilateral agreements, foster investment, promote digital cooperation, and build partnerships with the Global South.

PM Modi Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake his longest diplomatic tour from July 2 to 9, 2025, visiting Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. The objective of this trip is to strengthen India's bilateral relations, promote trade and investment, and lay the groundwork for India's BRICS presidency in 2026. This tour is considered a significant step towards making the voice of the Global South more influential on global platforms.

Ghana: A New Focus on Economic Cooperation and Historical Ties

Prime Minister Modi will visit Ghana, a West African nation, from July 2-3. This marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 30 years. Through this visit, efforts are being made to give a new direction to India-Ghana relations.

PM Modi will be welcomed by President John Dramani Mahama. Delegation-level talks will be held between the two countries, focusing on key issues such as agriculture, vaccine development, defense cooperation, critical minerals, and digital infrastructure. Prime Minister Modi will also address the Parliament of Ghana, where he will discuss shared democratic values and India's role in development. Ghana is the oldest democracy in Africa, and India also cooperated in its independence in 1957.

Over 15,000 Indian diaspora members reside in Ghana. PM Modi will engage with them, further strengthening people-to-people contact between the two countries. India's bilateral trade with Ghana is approximately $3 billion, primarily based on gold imports. In addition, India has invested over $2 billion.

Trinidad and Tobago: Cultural Heritage and Diaspora Engagement

From July 3-4, Prime Minister Modi will visit Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean nation. This will be the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister since 1999. This tour coincides with the 180th anniversary of the arrival of people of Indian origin there.

Approximately 40 to 45 percent of Trinidad and Tobago's population is of Indian descent. PM Modi will hold high-level bilateral talks with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamala Persad-Bissessar. These talks will focus on pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and agriculture. The Prime Minister will also address a joint session of the Parliament there. This will be a symbol of the shared democratic values of India and Trinidad.

A major diaspora conference will also be organized, establishing direct communication with people of Indian origin. Furthermore, both countries will explore new opportunities for cooperation in the fields of education, sports, and culture.

Argentina: New Energy in Strategic Partnership

From July 4-5, Prime Minister Modi will visit Argentina. This will be the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years. This visit, at the invitation of President Javier Milei, aims to give a new direction to the strategic partnership between India and Argentina.

Argentina is currently undergoing comprehensive economic reforms. In this context, India seeks to deepen its partnership with Argentina in sectors such as trade, defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, and digital innovation.

India also plans to increase cooperation in the field of energy security and rare earth minerals. Prime Minister Modi and President Milei will also discuss the possibilities of cooperation in telemedicine, defense manufacturing, and space technology.

Brazil: BRICS Summit and Trade Relations

From July 5-8, Prime Minister Modi will visit Brazil. He will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The BRICS summit will be hosted by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. During the Brazil visit, PM Modi will also undertake a state visit to Brasilia. Bilateral talks will be held to further strengthen the strategic partnership established between India and Brazil in 2006.

At the BRICS Summit, PM Modi will meet with leaders from 10 full member countries, 12 partner countries, and 8 invited countries. The main topics of discussion will be global governance reforms, peace and security, multilateralism, artificial intelligence, climate action, and global health.

The bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and President Lula will focus on trade, defense, renewable energy, mining, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.

India and Brazil have a trade of $12.2 billion, which is India's largest in Latin America. Both countries will discuss the possibilities of expanding trade agreements. This visit is considered important for India's preparations for the 2026 BRICS presidency.

Namibia: Restoring Historical Relations

Prime Minister Modi's fifth and final visit will be to Namibia on July 9. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 27 years. This visit, at the invitation of President Nangolo Mbumba, is an opportunity to re-strengthen the historical relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi will be welcomed with a state honor. He will pay tribute to Dr. Sam Nujoma, the founding father of Namibia, and address the Parliament.

India and Namibia have a trade of $600 million and investments exceeding $800 million, mainly focused on zinc and diamond processing. The transfer of cheetahs from Namibia to India's Kuno National Park symbolizes the growing cooperation between the two countries.

This visit will discuss promoting cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals such as uranium, copper, and lithium. Additionally, an agreement is proposed to connect India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) with the Central Bank of Namibia.
