RJD MLC Urmila Thakur compared Lalu Yadav to Lord Shiva, calling him a "living god of Kali Yuga." BJP-JDU bly condemned the statement, calling it an insult to Sanatan Dharma.
Bihar News: Amidst preparations for the assembly elections in Bihar, political statements are intensifying. In this context, Urmila Thakur, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), has created a stir in political circles by making a controversial statement. Urmila Thakur compared RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav to Lord Shiva, calling him the "living god of Kali Yuga." Following this statement, the JDU and BJP have responded sharply.
Controversial statement made in Muzaffarpur
Urmila Thakur had gone to participate in the unveiling of the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar in Gaighat, Muzaffarpur district, on Wednesday. On this occasion, addressing the public meeting, she said, "After Lord Shiva, if there is another living god who gives blessings, it is Lalu Prasad Yadav. A person who has brought a girl like Urmila Thakur, whose father used to work as a barber, to the chair of the Legislative Council, cannot be an ordinary person."
She further said that just as Lord Shiva is considered the god of the poor, similarly, Lalu Yadav is also the leader of the poor and backward classes. According to her, Lalu Yadav strengthened the politics of social justice and gave participation in power to the marginalized.
BJP-JDU's retort
Both JDU and BJP have expressed their displeasure over Urmila Thakur's statement. Senior JDU leader and former minister Neeraj Kumar said, "Lord Shiva is not the creator of the universe, but the destroyer. He never accumulated property, whereas Lalu Yadav has serious allegations of corruption and accumulating property. He has wreaked havoc on Bihar and stopped its development."
At the same time, BJP spokesperson Prabhakar Mishra called the statement an insult to Sanatan Dharma. He said, "Taking political advantage by taking the name of Mahadev and comparing a leader involved in corruption to him is condemnable. This is an insult to the sentiments of crores of devout Hindus."
Increased statements before elections
Assembly elections are expected in Bihar at the end of this year. In such a situation, statements between political parties are constantly intensifying. While the RJD leader is presenting this statement as the social contribution of their leader, the opposition parties are considering it as an exaggeration and insulting.
Lalu Yadav's image and political legacy
Lalu Prasad Yadav is a big name in Bihar politics. He has been the former Chief Minister of the state and is considered a symbol of social justice politics at the national level. But at the same time, many serious corruption cases like the fodder scam are also registered against him, due to which he also had to go to jail.
His party, the RJD, still maintains a b presence in Bihar politics and his popularity remains especially among the backward classes, Dalits, and Muslim voters. However, the opposition has often leveled allegations of corruption and dynasticism against him.
