Mehraj Malik Controversy: Jammu and Kashmir's political scene is once again heated. Mehraj Malik, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Doda, is caught in a fresh controversy. On Tuesday, he engaged in a heated argument and physical altercation with supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) outside the Assembly complex.
PDP Supporters Level Serious Allegations
The PDP supporters, angered by alleged comments made against party founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, leveled serious accusations against Mehraj Malik. They accused him of misleading youth, engaging in corruption, and abducting and torturing a journalist. Furthermore, allegations of defrauding a young man of lakhs of rupees also surfaced.
Mehraj Malik labels PDP as BJP supporter
Responding to these allegations, Mehraj Malik termed the PDP as the BJP's 'B-team,' claiming that the PDP is responsible for the current volatile situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Malik also alleged that the PDP is acting at the behest of the National Conference to suppress the opposition's voice in the Assembly.
Commotion outside the Assembly complex
The confrontation outside the Assembly escalated when PDP supporters surrounded Malik. A pushing and shoving match ensued between the two groups, but onlookers intervened to de-escalate the situation. Police deployed for security at the scene had to intervene.
Debate intensifies in the Assembly over Waqf Bill
Amidst this controversy, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed significant uproar over the Waqf Bill. National Conference MLA Altaf Ahmad Kalu engaged in a heated debate demanding an adjournment motion. Tensions flared between BJP and opposition MLAs, with several near-clashes.
