A commendable initiative has been undertaken in Rajasthan to secure the future of daughters. Jaipur Dairy, in collaboration with the Bhajanlal government, has launched the ‘Saras Laado Myara Yojana’ on April 5th, 2025.
Jaipur: Weaving together Rajasthan's cultural traditions and social concerns, Jaipur Dairy has announced the ‘Saras Laado Myara Yojana.’ This scheme, effective from April 5th, 2025, will provide a traditional dowry of ₹21,000 to the daughters of registered milk producer farmers. This is not only financial assistance but also a powerful step towards enhancing the dignity of daughters and driving social change.
Jaipur Dairy to Play the Role of 'Maayke' in Daughters' Dowries
In Rajasthan, a dowry (mayra) is not merely a ritual; it represents the love and respect of the maternal family. Jaipur Dairy will now embody this sentiment, acting as the maternal family (maayke) for every farmer's daughter, providing a ₹21,000 dowry at her wedding and thus keeping the social tradition alive. Approximately 1.5 lakh registered farmers are under the Jaipur District Milk Producers' Union Limited. The scheme will benefit farmers who are members of the dairy and whose daughters are getting married. This initiative will be particularly beneficial for economically weaker families.
Jaipur Dairy: Celebrating 50 Years of Service
According to Manish Faujdar, Managing Director of Jaipur Dairy, this scheme will serve multiple purposes, including upholding the dignity of daughters, improving the sex ratio, preventing child marriages, and encouraging the birth of girls. This scheme is a harmonious blend of cultural values and modern thinking. Starting with only 13 committees in 1975, Jaipur Dairy today is among Rajasthan's largest dairies, with a network of over 4,000 milk committees. On its Golden Jubilee, the dairy has dedicated this invaluable gift to the farmers.

Inspired by the Tradition of Lord Krishna
The tradition of providing a dowry in Rajasthani culture is linked to the story of Narsi Bhagat and Lord Krishna, where Krishna affirmed the folk tradition by providing a dowry for a devotee's daughter. Inspired by this sentiment, Jaipur Dairy is now going to provide a dowry, 'like Krishna,' at the wedding of every farmer's daughter. This scheme will commence on April 5th, 2025, a day before Ram Navami. This auspicious day marks not just the launch of a scheme, but a celebration of culture, faith, and social cooperation.
The ‘Saras Laado Myara Yojana’ is an excellent example of how a cooperative institution can become an agent of social change. This initiative will not only increase the smiles of daughters but also create a new reason for hope, pride, and celebration in the villages of Rajasthan.
