A remarkable cybercrime incident has emerged from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. While scammers typically target ordinary individuals, a young man cleverly turned the tables, becoming the scammer's victim. A scammer, posing as a government official, attempted to extort ₹16,000 from the youth, but instead, the youth managed to extract ₹10,000 from the scammer. This unusual event is now the talk of the town.

Scammer's Call in March

According to media reports, the incident occurred on March 6th. Bhupendra, a Kanpur resident, received a call from a scammer. The scammer identified himself as a CBI officer, claiming a woman had filed an FIR against Bhupendra. To substantiate this false claim, the scammer sent manipulated images and videos. He then demanded ₹16,000 to settle the fabricated case. Bhupendra, however, grew suspicious and devised a plan to teach the scammer a lesson.

Clever Trap for the Scammer

To entrap the scammer, Bhupendra claimed he owned a gold chain he could sell to pay the demanded amount. He assured the scammer that he wouldn't inform his family, needing ₹3,000 initially for a loan to sell the chain. The scammer believed him and transferred ₹3,000. Bhupendra then enlisted a friend to pose as a jeweler and, through further negotiations, received an additional ₹7,000 in two installments. In total, ₹10,000 was extracted from the scammer.

When the Scammer Realized the Truth

Upon realizing the deception, the scammer demanded his money back. However, it was too late. Bhupendra reported the incident to the police, stating his intention to donate the money extorted from the scammer to a needy person.

Police Investigating the Incident

Bhupendra has filed a complaint with the police, who have launched a thorough investigation to apprehend the cyber scammer and prevent similar frauds. Kanpur police highlighted the unusual nature of this case, where the scammer became the victim. The police are advising the public to remain vigilant and cautious of such calls.
