Port Louis: Mauritius bestowed its highest civilian award, the "Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean," on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during its National Day celebrations. This marks PM Modi's 21st international honor, which he dedicated to the historic partnership between India and Mauritius. Eight significant agreements were signed between India and Mauritius on this occasion, covering areas such as maritime security, trade, and skill development.

India's 'MAHASAGAR' Approach for the Global South

Following the award ceremony, Prime Minister Modi announced India's new approach for the Global South, 'MAHASAGAR' (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions). This initiative will strengthen security, sustainable development, and mutual cooperation. PM Modi stated,

“Our approach for the Global South will be 'MAHASAGAR,' ensuring both development and security. It will take trade, skill development, and partnerships to new heights.”

Strengthening India-Mauritius Cooperation

India's new approach is seen as a robust response to China's growing influence. In recent years, China has attempted to expand its presence in the Indian Ocean region, but India, under its 'MAHASAGAR' approach, will now strengthen cooperation with smaller and developing nations. Prime Minister Modi's visit to Mauritius saw the signing of several agreements covering maritime security, digital payments, trade in national currencies, and skill development. This partnership reflects India's b role not only in the Indian subcontinent but also across the African and Indian Ocean regions.

India-Mauritius: A New Chapter in Historic Relations

PM Modi stated on this occasion, "The relationship between Mauritius and India is not merely political or economic, but deeply rooted in culture and history. Indians residing in Mauritius further strengthen this bond." Through this new initiative, India will strive to provide developing countries with enhanced economic cooperation, security assistance, and strengthened trade relations.
