Prime Minister Narendra Modi at NXT Conclave 2025 stated that the government has repealed 1500 obsolete laws in 10 years, including a British-era law that prohibited more than 10 people from dancing at a wedding.

NXT Conclave 2025: Addressing the NXT Conclave 2025 in New Delhi on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the ‘Lutyens’ elite and the ‘Khan Market gang,’ reminding them of an archaic British-era law. He questioned their silence on this law, asking why those who file Public Interest Litigations (PILs) on every issue remain silent on this matter.

Modi's attack on British-era dance ban

Prime Minister Modi referred to a British-era theatrical performance act, under which police could arrest everyone involved in an incident if more than 10 people danced together at a wedding. He stated that this law remained in effect 75 years after independence but was repealed by his government.

Prime Minister Modi said,

"Imagine what would have happened if Modi had introduced such a law? They would have spread misinformation on social media, set things on fire, and even pulled my hair. But it is our government that repealed this unnecessary law."

1500 obsolete laws repealed

Prime Minister Modi announced that his government has repealed approximately 1500 irrelevant laws in the last 10 years. He said that previous governments had enacted numerous laws that appear unreasonable in today's context.

He further illustrated this point with an example: previously, people faced imprisonment for cutting bamboo, as the government considered it a tree, subjecting it to stringent forestry laws. However, his government reclassified bamboo as grass, benefiting farmers and businesses.

India's strides towards Digital India

Prime Minister Modi stated that India is rapidly advancing in technology. He highlighted that Income Tax Returns (ITR) can now be filed within minutes, and refunds are processed within days.

Emphasizing the National Education Policy (NEP), he mentioned that children now receive training in modern technologies like coding, AI, and data science from secondary school. He announced the government's plan to launch 50,000 Atal Tinkering Labs to provide students with practical experience.

India's emergence as a global power

Prime Minister Modi stated that over 25 million homes received electricity for the first time in the last decade. This increased the demand for electronic goods, transforming India into a major exporter of electronics.

He added,
"For decades, the world saw India only as a back office, but now India is emerging as the world's new factory."

Modi also mentioned the growing global demand for Indian agricultural products. He cited the increasing international demand for products like Pulwama snow peas, Purandar figs from Maharashtra, and Kashmiri cricket bats.
