Glacier Breaks in Uttarakhand's High Himalayas Following Weather Clearance
Glaciers Breaking: Following a week of clear weather in Uttarakhand, glaciers in the high Himalayas have begun to break. The intense sunshine is rapidly melting snow, disrupting several routes. In the Vyasi Valley, a glacier break near the Champu stream has blocked the Tawaghat-Lipulekh road, while a house in the Darma Valley collapsed under the weight of snow. Authorities have issued an alert due to the potential danger.
Tawaghat-Lipulekh Road Blocked by Glacier Break
After the weather cleared on Wednesday, snow began melting, causing the Sipu and Champu glaciers to break. A large amount of snow accumulated near the Champu stream, blocking the Tawaghat-Lipulekh road leading to Adi Kailash. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has started clearing the road, but it may take two to three days to fully reopen it.
House Collapses Under Snow in Darma Valley
In Nagling village, Darma Valley, the house of former BDC member Manoj Nagnyal collapsed due to the heavy weight of snow. Recent snowfall had caused a large accumulation of snow on the roof, weakening the structure until it finally collapsed. The affected family has informed the Tehsil administration.
Thick Layer of Snow on Darma Road
A thick layer of snow still covers the Darma road, completely obstructing passage. The BRO has cleared the snow up to Selatha, but a significant amount remains further along. Locals report only one machine is being used for snow clearance, slowing down the operation. According to the BRO, it may take eight to ten days to fully clear the entire route.
Administration Issues Alert
Considering the continuous glacier breaks and the impact of the snowfall, the administration has issued an alert. Officials have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and instructed residents of border villages to remain vigilant.
