Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear reported efforts to rescue hundreds of people trapped by the floods. He stated that several fatalities resulted from vehicles becoming submerged, including a mother and her seven-year-old child. Beshear urged people to stay off the roads and remain safe, emphasizing the perilous conditions. He also commended the individuals risking their lives to assist others, stating this is a time for search and rescue efforts.
Alabama also experienced severe weather. The weather service confirmed a tornado in Hale County, resulting in the destruction of several mobile homes and downed power lines. Significant damage occurred in Tuscumbia, with authorities advising residents to evacuate for safety. These incidents highlight the substantial loss of life and property due to the severe weather.
State of Emergency Declared in Obion County
Parts of Obion County, Tennessee, have declared a state of emergency due to flooding following a dam breach. According to the National Weather Service, dangerously cold conditions are anticipated in North Dakota, with temperatures potentially plummeting to 50 degrees below zero (-45.6 degrees Celsius). Such frigid temperatures pose a significant risk to life, and people are being warned to stay indoors.
