Punjab Kings finally delivered a victory for their home crowd. In a thrilling match on Tuesday, Punjab defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 19 runs.
Sports News: Punjab Kings registered their first home win of the IPL 2025 season on Tuesday, defeating Chennai Super Kings by 19 runs on their home ground. Young batsman Priyansh Arya smashed a spectacular century, propelling Punjab to 219/6 batting first. Chasing the target, Chennai Super Kings managed 201/5 in their 20 overs, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat.
Priyansh Arya's Storm
Priyansh Arya fully justified Shreyas Iyer's decision to bat first after winning the toss. He displayed aggressive intent from the outset, reaching his century in just 39 balls – the second-fastest century in IPL history for Punjab Kings. He ultimately scored 103 runs off 42 balls, including 7 fours and 9 sixes.
However, Punjab received little support from the other end. Prabhsimran Singh was out without scoring, and captain Iyer also departed early. Nehal Wadhera and Maxwell also fell cheaply. But a composed and powerful partnership between Shashank Singh (52 runs) and Marco Jansen (34 runs) steered Punjab to a b 219/6.
Chennai's Strong Start, Then Stuttering Steps
Chennai started steadily. Ruturaj Gaikwad's early dismissal hampered Chennai's momentum. However, Conway and Shivam Dube (45 runs) revived the chase with an 89-run partnership. Chennai strategically retired Conway in the 18th over to give a chance to a faster batsman, but even Dhoni failed to capitalize, getting out on the first ball of the final over. Before that, Shivam Dube's dismissal by Lockie Ferguson further dented Chennai's hopes.
Punjab's bowling, which looked under pressure in the initial overs, gained control in the final stages. Besides Ferguson, Jansen and Ashwin bowled economically, keeping the run rate in check. Chennai could only reach 201/5 in their 20 overs.
