India is actively pursuing its bid to host the Olympic Games. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) submitted a formal letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in October of last year, expressing India's desire to host both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sports News: India is strengthening its bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. The IOA submitted a formal letter of intent to the IOC last October, expressing India's interest in hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games. A recent report reveals that hosting the event could cost India an estimated ₹34,700 crore to ₹64,000 crore. This budget is double the estimated cost of the 2024 Paris Olympics (₹32,765 crore).

Gujarat to be the Main Hub, Other Cities to Participate

A high-level coordination committee meeting recently took place in Gandhinagar, where a document titled 'Review Meeting - Preparations for Ahmedabad 2036' was presented. According to this report, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are proposed as the main venues. Additionally, cities like Bhopal, Goa, Mumbai, and Pune have been identified as potential locations for sporting events. The report also indicates that significant investment in infrastructure and logistics will be required to develop these locations.

IOC President Kirstie Coventry's Response

IOC's new President, Kirstie Coventry, stated that the selection process for the 2036 Olympic Games is extensive and will continue for the next few months. She also hinted at the possibility of adopting new strategies to enhance transparency and participation in the selection of host countries. Coventry clarified that she will share her views on this matter in the coming months.

Over 10 Countries, Including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, in the Race

India is not alone in the race to host the 2036 Olympic Games. More than 10 countries, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have expressed interest in hosting. However, it remains unclear which countries have formally submitted their bids. India's bid has now entered the sustained dialogue phase, indicating the country's significant role in the IOC process.

Final Decision Expected by 2026

The IOC is reviewing the bids of potential hosts, which involves a thorough examination of the countries' projects, infrastructure, financial standing, and sporting culture. The next phase of the process will involve "targeted dialogues," where each interested country must submit a formal bid. The Future Host Commission will evaluate this bid before making a final decision. It is expected that the host country for the 2036 Olympic Games will be announced by 2026.

Hosting the Olympics would not only strengthen India's global image but also significantly improve its sports infrastructure. It would attract foreign investment and boost tourism. However, the financial investment and logistical management required for such a large-scale event will present a significant challenge for India.
