Mahavir Jayanti: Indian Stock Markets Closed, US Markets Surge

Today marks the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, a day celebrated with great reverence and joy by the Jain community worldwide. This day holds immense spiritual significance and is of paramount importance to Jain followers.

Share Market Holiday: In observance of Mahavir Jayanti, a holiday has been declared for all stock exchanges across India today, Thursday, April 10th. Both major Indian stock exchanges, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), will remain closed for trading.

Every year, the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, is marked with special religious ceremonies nationwide and is observed as a public holiday.

Market Reopens Friday

Following today's holiday, the market will reopen on Friday, April 11th, at the usual time. However, due to the weekend, investors will have to wait an additional two days, as the market will remain closed on Saturday, April 12th, and Sunday, April 13th. Therefore, trading will only occur on Friday this week.

Indian Markets Closed Down on Wednesday

Wednesday's trading session ended on a disappointing note for investors. After a day of fluctuations, the BSE Sensex closed down 379.93 points at 73,847.15. Similarly, the NSE Nifty closed down 136.70 points at 22,399.15. This marked the third consecutive day of market closure in the red.

US Markets Witness Significant Gains

Conversely, the US stock markets experienced a historic surge on Wednesday. The markets rallied following US President Donald Trump's announcement of easing strict tariff policies and offering a 90-day reprieve. The Dow Jones jumped 2403 points, or 6.38%, closing at 40,048.59. The S&P 500 saw a remarkable 9.5% increase, while the Nasdaq surged 12.16%, closing at 17,124.97.
