On this day, sisters apply tilak to their brothers, praying for their long life and prosperity. But do you know why this festival is celebrated specifically after Holi? Let's explore its story.

The Mythological Tale of Bhai Dooj

Bhai Dooj holds significant importance in Hinduism. It is also known as Bhai Teeka, Bhaubeej, Bhai Bij, Bhai Phonta, and Bhratr Dwitiya. According to mythology, Lord Yama, the god of death, once visited his sister Yamuna. Yamuna welcomed him warmly, applied tilak to his forehead, and offered him a meal. Pleased, Yama blessed her, stating that any brother who receives tilak from his sister on this day will be blessed with long life and prosperity. This tradition of celebrating the festival began since then.
