Three Top JDU Leaders Join RJD in Bihar
Bihar: A significant development has taken place in Bihar's political landscape with three prominent leaders of the Janata Dal (United) – JDU – joining the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). These leaders include Ramkrishna Mandal, the state general secretary of JDU; Dayanand Sharma, the state general secretary of the education cell; and Abhinash Ram, a JDU leader. They joined the RJD at its Patna office under the leadership of Engineer Prabhas Kumar, a former RJD candidate from Bihariganj assembly constituency.
Meeting with and Support for Tejashwi Yadav
The three leaders joined the RJD in the presence of senior party leaders, including Ranvijay Sah, the principal general secretary; Mukund Singh, in charge of the headquarters; and state representative Ejaz Ahmed. Ranvijay Sah stated that these leaders joined the RJD due to their faith in Lalu Prasad Yadav's ideology of social justice and Tejashwi Yadav's work over the past 17 months.
Tejashwi Yadav: Strengthening the Party
Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, stated that the addition of these leaders will significantly strengthen the party's position in various regions of Bihar. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav also welcomed the new members, emphasizing the boost to the RJD's strength.
Meeting with Tejashwi Yadav after Joining RJD
Engineer Prabhas Kumar mentioned that the new members received receipts and party symbols—a gamcha (traditional towel) and a biography of Lalu Prasad Yadav—upon joining. Subsequently, they met with Tejashwi Yadav and Sanjay Yadav to discuss their decision.
Pledge to Secure Bihar's Future
The three leaders declared their commitment to working towards making Tejashwi Yadav the Chief Minister to secure Bihar's future. This statement clearly outlines their objectives for joining the RJD.
Mahagathbandhan's Agenda for Bihar
Engineer Prabhas Kumar, speaking at a public meeting in Madhupur the previous day, stated that if the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) forms the government, a 100% domicile policy will be implemented, and the fees for Bihar government job application forms will be reduced. He also pointed out that 99% of those arrested during the liquor ban were from extremely backward and Dalit communities.
New Promises for Women and Youth
He further promised that an RJD government would provide monthly financial assistance of ₹2500 to each woman, increase pensions from ₹400 to ₹1500, and provide 200 units of free electricity. Additionally, substantial employment opportunities for youth were promised.
Questioning the BJP-JDU Government
Engineer Prabhas criticized the BJP-JDU government, claiming its failure across all sectors and asserting that a Mahagathbandhan government would bring positive change to Bihar.
