The Calcutta High Court granted permission to the Anjani Putra Sena to hold a Ram Navami rally in Howrah on April 6th, stipulating that no weapons would be allowed; only flags and plastic maces are permitted.
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court delivered a major setback to the Mamata Banerjee government by granting permission to the Hindu organization Anjani Putra Sena to conduct a Ram Navami rally in Howrah. This rally will proceed along the designated route on April 6th. The state government had initially denied permission for this rally, but it will now be possible following the court's order.
Permission Granted with Court-Imposed Conditions
However, the High Court has imposed certain strict conditions on the rally.
The rally will be permitted only from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
A maximum of 500 participants are allowed in the procession.
No individual will be permitted to carry weapons.
Carrying flags and plastic maces is allowed.
Police will be deployed at the front and rear of the rally to maintain law and order.
Ram Navami Rally Route
According to the court's order, the rally will commence from the Narsingh Temple and conclude at Howrah Maidan via GT Road. The administration has been instructed to make stringent security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.
Mamata Government's Plea Rejected
The state government had appealed to the court to deny permission for the rally, citing concerns about a potential deterioration of law and order. However, the High Court dismissed this appeal, stating that a peaceful procession cannot be prevented.
Following the court's decision, Hindu organizations hailed it as a victory for religious freedom. A spokesperson for the Anjani Putra Sena stated that they would abide by all court directives and that the rally would be entirely peaceful.
