PM Modi to Attend BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand, Followed by Sri Lanka State Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand, where discussions will focus on regional cooperation, trade, connectivity, and security issues. Following this, he will undertake a state visit to Sri Lanka.

BIMSTEC Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Thailand on a two-day visit at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. PM Modi will participate in the 6th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit scheduled for April 4th, 2025. This is his third visit to Thailand. Following this visit, Prime Minister Modi will embark on a state visit to Sri Lanka.

India's Participation in the BIMSTEC Summit

At the BIMSTEC Summit, Prime Minister Modi will discuss regional cooperation and economic development with the heads of state of seven countries. Leaders from Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bhutan will also participate in this summit. Furthermore, from April 4th to 6th, PM Modi will participate in the inauguration of various development projects in Sri Lanka, which are being implemented with financial assistance from India.

Thailand's Presidency: A Historic Step for BIMSTEC

Thailand holds the BIMSTEC presidency this year. The summit will adopt the 6th BIMSTEC Declaration, which will formulate a strategic roadmap for the region's future. Along with this, the "Bangkok Vision 2030" will be announced, establishing new possibilities for future cooperation and development.

Additionally, leaders from all participating countries will sign a maritime transport cooperation agreement aimed at expanding trade and travel in the Bay of Bengal. This agreement will be a significant step towards strengthening regional connectivity and boosting economic opportunities.

India's Role in BIMSTEC

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, under the BIMSTEC framework, India is promoting cooperation in areas such as security, trade, investment, digital connectivity, food, energy, climate, and human security. India is one of the four founding members of BIMSTEC and is playing a leading role in regional security, energy, and disaster management through this organization.

PM Modi's Visit to Sri Lanka

Following his visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Modi will undertake a state visit to Sri Lanka from April 4th to 6th, 2025. During this visit, at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and partnerships between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi will review Sri Lanka's development projects and discuss bilateral relations with senior leaders.
