Voting Underway for Delhi Assembly Elections; Polling Continues Until 5 PM on 70 Seats. Amidst Tight Security, 1.56 Crore Voters Are Exercising Their Franchise; Results to be Announced on February 8th.
Delhi Election: Voting for the Delhi Assembly elections commenced at 7 AM on Wednesday. Voters across all 70 seats are exercising their franchise. The polling process will continue until 5 PM.
Along with the Delhi elections, voting is also taking place for the Erode Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu and the Milkipur Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The Erode seat fell vacant due to the demise of MLA E.V.K.S. Elangovan, and the Milkipur seat due to the resignation of Avadhesh Prasad.
Chief Electoral Officer's Appeal to Voters
Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer, R. Elis Vaz, appealed to voters to participate in large numbers. The Election Commission has made robust security arrangements to ensure free and fair elections.
Heavy Security Deployment
A total of 97,955 personnel and 8,715 volunteers have been deployed for the elections. For security, 220 companies of CRPF, 19,000 Home Guards, and 35,626 Delhi Police personnel have also been deployed.
699 Candidates Testing Their Luck
This time, 699 candidates are in the fray for the Delhi elections. Their fate will be decided by voters using electronic voting machines, with the results to be declared on February 8th. A close contest is anticipated between the Aam Aadmi Party, BJP, and Congress.
According to Election Commission data, over 1.56 crore voters are participating in this election. This includes 83.76 lakh men, 72.36 lakh women, and 1,267 third-gender voters.
Increased Participation of Women and Youth Voters
There has been an increase in the number of women voters this time. 2.39 lakh young people aged 18-19 are voting for the first time. Meanwhile, 1.09 lakh senior citizens over 85 years of age and 783 voters over 100 years of age are also exercising their franchise.
Disabled and Service Voters Also to Participate
79,885 disabled voters and 12,736 service voters will also be part of this electoral process. The Election Commission has made special arrangements for the disabled at polling stations.
This time, a total of 2,696 polling stations and 13,766 polling booths have been set up in Delhi to ensure the smooth conduct of the polling process.
Election Results on February 8th
The results of the Delhi Assembly elections will be declared on February 8th. The entire election process will be completed by February 10th.
