Delhi News: Delhi is facing a worsening power crisis. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former minister, Atishi, launched a scathing attack on the BJP government, stating that prolonged power cuts are plaguing the city. She alleged that during the AAP government's tenure, Delhi residents had forgotten about inverters and generators, but the situation has drastically changed. She claimed that the power crisis has deepened in the capital since the BJP government took over, causing significant distress to the public.
Increased Electricity Demand During Summer
Electricity demand in the capital is steadily rising. In March alone, it reached 4361 megawatts, slightly lower than the 4482 megawatts recorded during the same period last year. Power distribution companies attribute this year's increase to the early onset of summer, leading to a surge in air conditioner and cooler usage. Experts predict that the demand could reach 9000 megawatts in April and May, potentially exacerbating the power shortage.
Public Distressed Over Power Cuts
Many areas in Delhi are experiencing hours-long power cuts, leaving residents struggling in the heat. The demand for inverters and generators has resurged in several areas. Local residents report significant inconvenience due to these outages. The AAP has targeted the BJP government over this issue.
BJP Government's Rebuttal
Delhi's Energy Minister, Ashish Sood, refuted the AAP's allegations, stating that a summer action plan has been formulated to ensure uninterrupted power supply and is being implemented swiftly. He added that instructions have been given to power companies to guarantee adequate supply and that the power network is being strengthened.
Political Heat Intensifies Over Power Crisis
The power crisis has sparked a war of words between the AAP and the BJP. The AAP contends that the power supply system has collapsed since the BJP government came to power, while the BJP dismisses it as a mere political stunt.
