Haryana: The deportation of 104 Indians from the United States has sparked a nationwide debate. While some question the government's role, others express outrage at the US decision. The issue is being discussed widely, from Parliament to the general public. Haryana's Transport Minister, Anil Vij, known for his outspoken statements, has also commented on the matter.

Anil Vij advocates for stricter action against illegal immigrants in India.

Supporting the US action, Haryana Minister Anil Vij stated that India should consider deporting the millions of illegal immigrants residing within its borders. He said, "Every country has the right to expel those residing illegally within its territory. What the US did is not wrong."

Policy needed to deport illegal immigrants – Anil Vij

Vij emphasized the need for India to take b action. He stated, "These individuals are born elsewhere, yet we support them. Why should this be? They should be sent back to their countries of origin. We need a policy to repatriate them."

Investigation into travel agents' fraud underway.

The deported Indians allege they were misled by travel agents with false promises of green cards, citizenship, and settlement in the US. A senior Haryana police officer confirmed that an investigation has been launched against these travel agents.

SIT to investigate travel agents.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Ambala Range IG Sibash Kabiraj, has been formed to investigate cases of illegal immigration to the US facilitated by travel agents. Notably, this SIT was formed in 2023 by then-Home Minister Anil Vij to tackle the rising cases of "pigeon-flying" (a term likely referring to human trafficking).

Most deportees from Haryana and Gujarat.

Among the deported Indians, the highest number – 33 each – were from Haryana and Gujarat. Additionally, 30 were from Punjab, three each from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh.

Punjab government urges PM Modi to intervene with the US.

Punjab's NRI Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise the issue with the US President. Responding to this, Anil Vij stated, "Instead, we should learn from this and deport the millions of illegal immigrants present in India back to their home countries."
