Sports News: The 44th IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens was halted due to heavy rain and b winds. The match was ultimately abandoned due to persistent adverse weather conditions. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Punjab Kings put up a b performance, scoring 201 runs for the loss of four wickets.

In response, Kolkata began their chase, but only one over was possible before b winds picked up, followed by light rain.

Punjab Kings' Impressive Start

Punjab Kings started the match with a brilliant performance. Winning the toss and batting first, they posted a formidable 201 runs for four wickets. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and young Priyansh Arya played outstanding innings. Prabhsimran scored 83 runs off 49 balls, including six fours and six towering sixes. Priyansh also played aggressively, smashing 69 runs off 35 balls, with eight fours and four sixes. Together, they forged a magnificent 120-run partnership for the first wicket.

Captain Shreyas Iyer also contributed significantly to Punjab's b score, remaining unbeaten on 25 runs off 16 balls. For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets for 34 runs.

Match Abandoned Due to Rain

Kolkata Knight Riders were set a challenging target of 202 runs. They had begun their innings and scored 7 runs without loss in one over. Sunil Narine (4 runs) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (1 run) were at the crease when a sudden gust of wind disrupted the match. The wind was accompanied by rain, forcing the ground staff to struggle to cover the field. The b winds even tore some of the covers. The rain continued relentlessly, making it impossible to resume play.

According to official updates, the cut-off time for a five-over match was set for 11:44 PM. However, around 11 PM, the organizers announced the abandonment of the match. Consequently, both teams were awarded one point each. This result slightly benefited Punjab Kings in the points table, while making the playoff race tougher for Kolkata Knight Riders.
