With IPL 2025 just days away, teams are intensifying their final preparations. Meanwhile, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) appear concerned about their pace bowling attack.
Sports News: As IPL 2025 is just days away, teams are accelerating their final preparations. However, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are showing concern regarding their fast bowling resources. Three key pacers – Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan – are recovering from injuries. Consequently, LSG management has begun searching for potential replacement players.
Shardul Thakur's Possible Return
Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who went unsold in this year's mega auction, could now be added to Lucknow Super Giants' list of potential pace bowlers. Reports suggest he has been participating in the team's practice sessions for the past week, and LSG might officially include him if an injury forces a bowler's withdrawal.
Shivam Mavi Also on the Radar
It's not just Shardul Thakur; Uttar Pradesh's fast bowler Shivam Mavi is also on LSG's radar. Mavi was not picked up by any team in the mega auction, but his bowling capabilities make him a viable option for the team management. A senior LSG official stated, "In previous seasons, we sought replacements for injured players later, but this time we want to be prepared beforehand."
LSG isn't the only team seeking replacements for injured players. Mumbai Indians have included Afghan bowler Mujeeb Ur Rahman in place of Allah Gajanfar. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have added Chetan Sakariya to replace Umran Malik.
New Rules for Replacement of Injured Players in IPL
The IPL Governing Council has implemented new rules regarding the replacement of injured players this season:
Replacement is only permitted if the BCCI medical panel confirms a player's unavailability for the entire season.
Once a replacement is included, the injured player cannot return to play in the season.
Franchises can now utilize replacements up to 12 league matches, instead of the previous limit of seven.
The chosen replacement player must be listed in the IPL's 'Registered Available Players Pool' (RAPP).
