Adani Enterprises Secures Contract for 13 km Sonprayag-Kedarnath Ropeway Project

Adani Enterprises has been awarded the contract for the 13 km long Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway project in Uttarakhand. This project will provide safe, fast, and eco-friendly travel for pilgrims. The ropeway will take only 36 minutes to reach Kedarnath and can carry 1,800 passengers every hour. Construction will be completed in approximately 6 years, and Adani will operate it for 29 years.

Ropeway Project: The 13-kilometer-long ropeway project from Sonprayag to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand has been awarded to Adani Enterprises. The Union Cabinet had approved it in March 2025. Currently, it takes 8-9 hours to reach Kedarnath, but after the completion of the ropeway, the journey will be possible in just 36 minutes. The project cost is approximately ₹4,081 crore. It will be completed in 6 years on a PPP model, and the Adani Group will operate it for 29 years, promoting pilgrim convenience, employment, and tourism.

Union Cabinet Gave Approval

The Union Cabinet had approved the Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway project in March 2025. Its estimated cost is approximately ₹4,081 crore. This project is part of the 'Parvatmala' project under the National Ropeway Development Program and will be developed on a public-private partnership model.

Journey by Ropeway in Just 36 Minutes

Upon completion of this ropeway project by the Adani Group, pilgrims will be able to reach Kedarnath Dham in just 36 minutes. Currently, this journey takes 8 to 9 hours. The ropeway will have the capacity to transport 1,800 passengers per hour in one direction to Kedarnath. This project will provide comfort and convenience to millions of pilgrims annually.

Adani Group to Undertake Construction and Operation

Adani Enterprises stated in a statement on Monday that it has received the contract allotment letter from National Highways Logistics Management Limited. The project will be executed by Adani's Road, Metro, Rail & Water division. The construction of this project will be completed in approximately 6 years.

Furthermore, after the project is completed, the Adani Group will operate it for 29 years. This will not only ease the journey for pilgrims but also create new employment opportunities for the local people of Uttarakhand and boost the tourism sector.
