A young man in Agra allegedly died by suicide after facing pressure from moneylenders, according to his family. The family said he had borrowed Rs 10,000 due to financial need but had allegedly repaid around Rs 60,000, while demands for more money and continued pressure persisted.
According to the family, the man's financial condition was already poor when he borrowed Rs 10,000. Despite repaying several times the original amount, he was allegedly asked to pay additional money in the name of interest and other charges.
The family said the man was under economic and mental stress and remained troubled over debt and financial difficulties. They alleged that even after around Rs 60,000 had been recovered against the Rs 10,000 loan, the pressure for further payments did not stop.
The man's wife had also been missing for around nine days before his death, adding to the family's concerns. Relatives said they were searching for her while the man was simultaneously facing pressure from those who had lent him money.
The family has sought an investigation into whether the wife's disappearance was connected in any way to the circumstances surrounding the man's death. Police will also seek to establish where she went, the circumstances in which she left home and whom she contacted afterward.
The family has asked police to determine from whom the man had borrowed money, how much he had repaid and how much was allegedly being demanded from him afterward. They have also sought action if it is established that anyone threatened or mentally harassed him.
Police can examine the man's mobile phone and other digital evidence, including conversations with lenders, call records, messages and records of financial transactions. Bank transactions, online payments, loan slips and other financial records may also help establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged debt and repayments.
If any suicide note or other document was recovered from the scene, it will also be examined. Any reference to debt, moneylenders or specific individuals could assist the investigation, although any such document or allegation would have to be established through investigation before being legally treated as proven.
After receiving information about the man's death, police reached the spot and took necessary action. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident was started.
The post-mortem report and evidence collected from the scene will form part of the investigation. Police will also examine the man's mental state, the events preceding his death, the alleged loan transactions and the role of the people from whom he had borrowed money.
The family has alleged that the man was subjected to excessive interest demands and pressure despite having paid around Rs 60,000 against the original Rs 10,000 loan. Police will investigate the allegation and examine documents and other evidence related to the transactions.
The investigation may also determine how many people the man had borrowed money from and how much he had returned to each of them. Police will examine whether any threats or sustained pressure were involved and whether there is evidence linking such conduct to his death.
The family has requested that police continue searching for the missing wife while conducting an impartial investigation into the man's death. Police will examine the two incidents separately as well as whether there was any connection between them.
