Highway Robbery: Scrap Merchant Targeted, Rs 10.40 Lakh Looted in Aligarh

Scrap merchant looted of Rs 10.40 lakh on Aligarh's Mathura-Bareilly Highway. Four miscreants in a car stopped the merchant on a bike and committed the crime. Police started investigation and formed three teams.

Gorai: A film-style robbery incident occurred on the Mathura-Bareilly Highway in the Gorai police station area of Aligarh district on Thursday evening. Four miscreants traveling in a car looted Rs 10.40 lakh from an employee of a scrap merchant and fled the scene. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police department was thrown into a tizzy. Police officials immediately inspected the crime scene and formed three separate teams for an investigation.

Over Rs 10 lakh looted by miscreants on the highway

According to information, Deepak, son of Niranjan Singh, a resident of Hathras, works for scrap dealer Ankit. On Thursday, he was carrying approximately Rs 10.40 lakh in cash from Hathras to Mathura. Late in the evening, when he proceeded past Nagla Bhura village and reached the Mathura-Bareilly Highway near Sathni village, four miscreants in a Scorpio car stopped him.

According to the victim, the miscreants first kicked his motorcycle hard, causing him to fall, and then snatched the bag containing the money. After committing the crime, the accused fled from the highway.

Police reached the spot upon receiving information

Upon learning about the robbery, Gorai and Iglas police reached the spot. The victim, Deepak, was questioned and senior officials were informed about the incident. Since the amount was substantial, the police administration immediately became active.

SP Rural Amrit Jain, CO Iglas Mahesh Kumar, the SOG team, and Gorai police reached the crime scene. Officials inspected the site and began the process of scrutinizing CCTV cameras installed in and around the vicinity.

Three police teams formed to search for the robbers

SP Rural Amrit Jain stated that this incident on the highway is being taken seriously. Three teams have been formed to search for the robbers. These include the SOG team, Gorai police station, and the cyber cell. Efforts are underway to identify the robbers' vehicle and their route using CCTV cameras installed on the highway and in surrounding areas.

The police said that the number plate of the Scorpio vehicle used by the miscreants is also being investigated. Efforts are also being made to gather clues from cameras at nearby toll plazas and petrol pumps.

Questions raised on highway security system

Following the incident, there is an atmosphere of fear among the local residents and traders. They stated that if such incidents can occur in broad daylight on the highway, then questions arise about the security system. Trade associations have demanded that the police arrest the accused as soon as possible and increase patrolling on the highway.

Local residents said that incidents of robbery and snatching occur frequently on the highway. Many times, victims are unable to even file a report, which emboldens the criminals further.
