Amanatullah Khan Faces Chargesheet in Jamia Nagar Police Attack Case

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan's legal troubles have escalated once again. The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet against him in connection with the Jamia Nagar case involving an attack on a police team. Amanatullah Khan, along with seven others, has been named in this case. The matter pertains to an FIR registered on February 10, 2025, alleging that Khan and his supporters attacked a Crime Branch team. The team had gone to apprehend Shahbaz Khan, a fugitive accused in an attempted murder case registered in 2018.

The police chargesheet states that Amanatullah Khan allegedly manhandled the police personnel with 20-25 supporters, snatched a policeman's identity card, and helped Shahbaz escape from police custody. Serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), such as sections 221, 132, 121(1), and 191(2), have been invoked in this case.

Absconding and Switching off Phone Hindered Investigation

The chargesheet also reveals that Khan remained absconding for some time after the incident. His mobile phone was also switched off, making it difficult for the police to trace his location. However, Amanatullah Khan is currently out on bail in this matter. The police believe that the filing of the chargesheet will expedite the hearing of the case and further legal action can also be accelerated.

Allegations of Conspiracy and Bail Relief

Following the intensification of the investigation, the police conducted raids at several locations in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, Amanatullah Khan wrote a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, professing his innocence and claiming that he was present in his assembly constituency. He termed it a political conspiracy.

On February 13, the Rouse Avenue Court granted Khan interim protection from arrest until February 24 and directed him to cooperate in the investigation. Subsequently, Khan reached the Jamia Nagar police station, where the police questioned him for about three hours. On February 25, the court granted him anticipatory bail on a personal bond of ₹25,000.
