Monsoon Session: Home Minister Amit Shah introduced a significant bill in the Lok Sabha, stipulating that if the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or any central or state minister faces serious allegations of corruption and remains in judicial custody for 30 days, they will automatically have to resign from their post. The bill's stated objective is to maintain integrity and ethics in politics.
Opposition's Protest and Uproar
As soon as the bill was introduced, the opposition started a b uproar in the Lok Sabha. Congress, SP, and TMC called it a move against the constitution. Asaduddin Owaisi also opposed this bill. Opposition MPs shouted slogans loudly and disrupted the proceedings of the House.
Amit Shah Gives Example of His Own Experience
Amidst the opposition's protest, Amit Shah, citing his own experience, said that maintaining integrity in politics is extremely important. He mentioned that while he was a minister in Gujarat, allegations were made against him, but he resigned from his post before being arrested and complied with the court orders. After being acquitted of the charges, he resumed his responsibilities.
The Home Minister said that this bill ensures the moral responsibility of leaders. If a leader is accused of serious crimes and remains in judicial custody for 30 days, they will have to step down from their position. Its aim is to ensure that there is no pressure on investigative agencies and that transparency is maintained in politics.
