The Maharashtra government and the central government have made a significant decision regarding the Ganesh Utsav. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on August 20 that Indian Railways will run 367 additional trains to facilitate devotees during the festival.
Mumbai: The Ganesh Utsav is set to commence across Maharashtra from August 27, 2025. This year, the state government and the central government have taken a major step to ease travel during the festival. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on August 20 that Indian Railways will operate 367 additional trains this time.
The Chief Minister described this as a “major relief” for devotees and travelers. He stated that this initiative will facilitate millions of Ganesh devotees in traveling to and from various parts of the state, including Mumbai, Pune, and Konkan.
Travelers Will Receive Special Facilities
The Ganesh Utsav in Maharashtra is not only religiously but also culturally significant. Every year, a large number of devotees return to the Konkan region from Mumbai and Pune. Keeping in mind the convenience of these travelers, the Railways has decided to run 367 additional trains this time. Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that this step was taken at the special request of the state government and will make travel easier during the festival.
The travelers going to Konkan from Mumbai and surrounding cities will benefit the most. In addition, travelers coming from and going to other parts of the state will also get relief.
Chief Minister Expressed Gratitude to PM Modi and Railway Minister
The Chief Minister said that the biggest relief for travelers this time will be in the ticket availability. Earlier, it was challenging to get tickets for passengers returning to Konkan during Ganesh Utsav. Now, this problem will be reduced due to the additional trains, and travel will be more comfortable. He said, “These additional train services will benefit not only the passengers traveling to and from Mumbai but also those from other parts of the state. Passengers will not have to stand in long queues or worry about tickets. This step will make the cultural festival of Maharashtra even smoother.”
CM Devendra Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. He said that the central government immediately accepted the state's request and cooperated in making travel easier during Ganesh Utsav. Fadnavis tweeted, “This decision of Indian Railways will increase the joy of the festival, and devotees will be able to return to their families and villages without any hindrance. This is a great example of the cooperation between the Maharashtra government and the Center.”
