Guwahati: The Assam government is preparing to bring laws against ‘Love Jihad’ and polygamy in the upcoming assembly session. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Wednesday that these bills will be presented in the session scheduled for November. Additionally, the government will also take legal steps to protect the lands of Vaishnavite monasteries.
The government has taken this step to safeguard the state's social and cultural fabric and empower communities. Under this initiative, granting land rights to tea garden workers is also being considered. Final decisions on these matters will be issued after cabinet meetings.
Bills on Love Jihad and Polygamy
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that cases of Love Jihad and polygamy have often led to social tension. The state government's objective is to control these issues and maintain social harmony. He also added that the new laws would help strengthen legal protection and family structures.
Sarma also clarified that this step is not against any specific community but is aimed at preventing social inequality and unfair marriage practices in the state.

Protection of Vaishnavite Monasteries' Lands and Tea Garden Workers' Land
The government announced that a bill would also be introduced to ensure the security of lands belonging to Vaishnavite monasteries. Under this, the properties of the monasteries will be protected from external interference. Additionally, a scheme is being planned for tea garden workers. The government is considering granting land rights to workers so that they can secure their property and livelihood.
The Chief Minister also commented on the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg. He stated that some people are trying to politicize Zubeen's death for political gain. Sarma remarked that individuals who had never listened to Zubeen's songs have suddenly become his fans. The Chief Minister described this as unfortunate and a step aimed at spreading unrest in Assam. Zubeen Garg had died in mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19, which led to protests in the state demanding justice for him.
The government launched the ‘Moi Zubeen, Amiu Zubeen’ campaign from Nalbari. Its objective is to unite genuine Zubeen fans and prevent conspiracies to spread social instability in the state. The Chief Minister stated that this campaign is an important step to maintain social harmony and protect the interests of the state's citizens.
