Ather Energy Unveils EL01 Scooter Concept on New Versatile EL Platform

Ather Energy unveiled the new EL01 scooter concept at its third Ather Community Day. This is the first new vehicle based on the EL platform, designed for versatility and efficiency. The EL01 features larger wheels, a family-friendly design, an advanced braking system, and on-board charging features.

EL01 Scooter: Ather Energy introduced the EL01 scooter concept at its third Ather Community Day, which is based on the new EL platform. This platform has been developed for versatility, scalability, and cost optimization. The EL01 features 14-inch larger wheels, a family-friendly design, a wide seat, and a pillion grab rail. It also includes an Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS) and a patented AC-DC on-board charging module. The new platform supports batteries ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh and will be produced at Maharashtra's new manufacturing unit.

EL01: A New Platform, A New Beginning

The EL01 has been developed on Ather's new EL platform. This platform is the company's first new architecture after the Ather 450. The EL platform is specifically designed with versatility, scalability, and cost optimization in mind. According to Ather's co-founder and CEO, Tarun Mehta, the EL platform will lay the foundation for the company's next growth phase. The aim is to produce various types of scooters at scale and more efficiently.

Rigorous Testing and Reliable Design

The company states that the new EL platform has been developed after approximately 2.6 million kilometers of testing. During the testing, a new chassis, powertrain, and a completely redesigned electronics stack were developed. The highlight of this platform is its versatility, which will enable Ather to cater to the needs of different consumer segments and markets affordably.

Due to the EL01's simplified architecture and fewer components, the assembly process will be 15 percent faster. Additionally, periodic servicing will also be twice as fast, with the service interval extended up to 10,000 kilometers. This will ensure riders receive better and timely service.

Design and Features

The EL01 concept resembles a modern family scooter. Its look is somewhat similar to Ather's previous model, Rizta, but the design is entirely new. The scooter features a clean and simple look with a rectangular LED headlamp and slim LED DRLs in the front apron. Integrated turn indicators are also included. The scooter boasts a wide footboard, a robust pillion grab rail, a flat single-piece seat, and a sleek LED tail light at the rear.

The EL01 concept rides on 14-inch larger wheels, giving it a premium look compared to commuter scooters. A 12-inch wheel option will also be available. The scooter features a patented AC-DC module, which allows the on-board charger to be stored neatly within the wiring. The under-seat storage space is large enough to accommodate two helmets comfortably.

Safety and Power

In terms of safety, the EL01 is equipped with an Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS). This system reduces the scooter's stopping distance during braking and minimizes the possibility of rear-wheel lockup. It also includes the Ather Charge Drive Controller, which integrates the on-board charger and motor controller.

Battery Options

The EL platform can support batteries ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh. These batteries will include different chemistries such as NMC and LFP. While the company has not yet shared precise powertrain specifications, it has indicated that with these battery options, the scooter will be ready for various ranges and performance levels.
