Generally, MCX runs in two sessions – morning and evening. But on these festival days, both sessions will remain closed.

Traders and investors associated with MCX and the currency segment will also not be able to conduct any trading activity on these special days of August. Due to this, people planning big deals and investments have to set their calendar keeping the dates in mind.

Major upcoming holidays in 2025

However, even after August, there are many important festivals to come on which the market will remain closed. Here is some information about the major holidays, in which NSE and BSE will remain closed:

  • October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra
  • October 21 – Diwali (Lakshmi Pujan)
  • October 22 – Balipratipada
  • November 5 – Prakash Parv (Guru Nanak Jayanti)
  • December 25 – Christmas

Especially on the day of Diwali, the tradition of evening Muhurat trading is also observed, which is only for a limited time. Apart from this, the market remains completely closed on all other days.

Festivals also affect the movement of the market

Whenever there are long holidays or the market remains closed for two to three consecutive days, fluctuations are seen in the movement of shares before and after that. Investors usually make some changes in the portfolio before the festival, so that there is no loss due to any sudden news or international impact during the holiday.
