Australia Suffers, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph Unleash Havoc

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first, but this decision proved costly. On a pitch that favored fast bowlers, the West Indies bowlers displayed remarkable accuracy and line-length. From the start of the innings, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph put pressure on the batsmen, denying them any opportunity to score runs.

Seales took 5 wickets for 60 runs, while Shamar Joseph claimed 4 wickets for 46 runs, effectively dismantling Australia’s batting lineup. Both bowlers not only took wickets but also unnerved the Australian batsmen mentally. A significant turning point in the match occurred when Sam Constance was given out LBW via DRS.

Shamar Joseph could have taken a second wicket in the same over, but Brandon King and Roston Chase missed catches. However, he quickly avenged this by getting Cameron Green caught in the slips.

Head and Khwaja Show Resilience

Australia’s start was disastrous, with the score falling to 22 runs for 3 wickets. Subsequently, Usman Khwaja and Travis Head attempted to stabilize the innings. Khwaja played a responsible innings of 47 runs, while Head scored a brilliant half-century. Their partnership helped Australia reach a respectable score.

However, as soon as Khwaja was dismissed, the West Indies regained momentum. Joseph and Seales decimated the middle order. After the wickets of Beau Webster and Alex Care, Head couldn’t stay at the crease for long. No significant contribution came from the lower order, and the team was eventually bowled out for 180.

West Indies’ Start Also Wavered

Australia’s resurgence came to an abrupt end as their bowling once again troubled the West Indies’ start. Mitchell Starc dismissed captain Craig Brathwaite, while John Campbell also fell early. Both openers were out within 7 overs. Brandon King played some aggressive shots, scoring 16 runs in 12 balls, but wickets continued to fall from the other end.

Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins each took a wicket, further exacerbating the West Indies’ situation. By the end of the day’s play, the West Indies had lost 4 wickets for 57 runs and were still 123 runs behind Australia.
